8/31/2023 0 Comments Solar roofs solar panels![]() Solar panels can last more than 25 years with the right upkeep. Depending on their output, it could take 20–30 shingles to provide as much power as one high-powered solar panel. You’ll need more solar roof tiles to match a single solar panel adequately. High-quality mono panels can produce more than 400 watts per panel, while solar shingles generate 13–70 watts each. You’ll need to match your home’s energy needs to your solar system’s power output. Solar shingles are less efficient and are more comparable to polycrystalline panels, with rates between 14% and 18%. They offer efficiency ratings up to 24%, meaning they can convert 24% of the sunlight they absorb into energy. Monocrystalline solar panels are considered the most efficient solar panels. Solar manufacturers use energy efficiency ratings to show how effectively panels and shingles can convert the sun’s rays into usable electricity. Efficiency RatingĮfficiency is vital to your solar system’s energy production. Instead of silicon, these cells use a combination of copper, indium, gallium, and selenium along with glass to create conductivity. CIGS cells are also used in thin-film solar panels, a less popular solar panel type. Most solar shingles use copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) cells. Some solar shingles incorporate monocrystalline silicon cells in their design. Mono panels are more efficient and are considered the best solar panels for home installations. Mono panels use solar cells cut from one monocrystalline silicon crystal, whereas polycrystalline panels use multiple silicon crystals. The silicon manufacturing process differentiates monocrystalline and polycrystalline panels. Silicon acts as a semiconductor and helps absorb the sun’s rays. Traditional solar panels use crystalline silicon. They don’t add undue weight to your roof and eliminate the need for mounts or bracketing systems. They’re also lighter than solar panels, with an average weight of 13 pounds per square foot. ![]() They cover or replace traditional asphalt shingles, so they’re usually 12 inches wide by 86 inches long. Solar shingles are significantly smaller than standard solar panels. Solar shingles can be integrated with your existing roof or used in place of a new roof, so they blend in more seamlessly with your home. Rooftop solar panels are also rack-mounted, which makes them more noticeable overall. Monocrystalline (mono) panels are less noticeable because they’re black, while polycrystalline solar panels stand out because they’re blue. The panels’ appearance depends on their type. Most residential solar installations use rooftop solar panels, which are more visible than solar shingles. Just like your roof, shingles are designed to withstand the elements, including heavy rain, wind, and hail. They can either cover your existing roof or replace it. These shingles contain thin layers of photovoltaic (PV) sheets that cover a glass base. Solar shingles resemble standard asphalt roof shingles but vary in composition. Since then, more solar panel companies and installers have begun offering solar shingles for residential installations. They became more popular when Tesla debuted its solar roof in 2016. The DOW Chemical Company introduced solar shingles to the U.S. ![]() Shingles aren’t as readily available as traditional panels, but there’s a growing interest in them. BIPV solutions reduce building material costs while providing renewable energy. Solar shingles are categorized as building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), or solar products that replace conventional building materials such as roofs or glass windows. Like solar panels, they absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity for your home. Solar shingles are an alternative to traditional solar panels that blend in more seamlessly with your roof. ![]() ![]() ![]() That’s partly because endemicity isn’t just about getting the virus’s reproductive number down to one. “That is really the million-dollar question,” Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, told me. Here’s one big question you’d probably like the answer to: Does omicron push endemicity farther off into the future? Or could it actually speed up our path to endemicity by infecting so much of the population so swiftly that we more quickly develop a layer of natural immunity? When we’ll know we’re finally in “endemic” territory So how should you be thinking about the trajectory and timeline of the pandemic going into the new year? And how should omicron be shaping your everyday decision-making and risk calculus? In the fall, some health experts were saying that they thought the delta variant might represent the last big act for this pandemic, and that we could reach endemicity in 2022. Looking at this data might make you wonder about some of the predictions that were floating around before omicron came on the scene. Nobody can look at the following chart and reasonably conclude that we’re in endemic territory. The highly contagious omicron variant means each infected person is infecting more than one other person, with the result that cases are exploding across the globe. ![]() ![]() “That means one infected person, on average, infects one other person.” “A disease is endemic if the reproductive number is stably at one,” Boston University epidemiologist Eleanor Murray explained. We’re not going to totally eradicate Covid-19, but we will see it move out of the pandemic phase and into the endemic phase.Įndemicity means the virus will keep circulating in parts of the global population for years, but its prevalence and impact will come down to relatively manageable levels, so it ends up more like the flu than a world-stopping disease.įor an infectious disease to be classed in the endemic phase, the rate of infections has to more or less stabilize across years, rather than showing big, unexpected spikes as Covid-19 has been doing. With omicron rates soaring, you may find yourself despairingly asking when - or even if - this pandemic is ever going to end. ![]() 8/31/2023 0 Comments Manta tau warhammer![]() ![]() Given that the bulk of its weapons are kinetic, solid munition based and slow rate of fire (unlike AC-130s which circle above uncontested airspace and use mostly rapid firing guns or ones loaded with HE rounds) it probably needs to be stationary for the most part to achieve any real impact in close air support/ground support. Most of its firepower is line of sight and, judging from the optics on the forge world mode, probably has really fields of vision for direct fire missions. Are you going to intentionally go full speed into the ground, or fire anything you can to maybe save your ass? I would probably freeze up to be honest. This condition was brought to notoriety by the 2008 film Marley and Me, which was based on an autobiographical account by journalist John Grogan. Thunder-phobic dogs are often the bane of the families they live with, and even if as puppies they do not exhibit such fear, they could develop it later. Neighbors in the areas affected by the storms may have heard an increased amount of barking, bawling and howling from the canine population. In Africa, the Republic of Rwanda is the host of the most ferocious lightning storms in the ancient continent. The proverbial chances of being struck by lightning are much greater in Tampa and Florida in general. While it may seem impressive to Ticos that a single storm in Costa Rica could deliver such an astounding amount of ground strikes, residents of the Tampa Bay area in Florida are used to similar electrical and atmospheric events with greater frequency. The 1.7 million strikes per day are necessary to maintain the electrical balance between the Earth and the atmosphere, according to David Cook of the Argonne National Laboratory. The figures above come from studies performed with detection devices and satellite optics. The booming ground strikes are estimated at about 1,728,000 per day, which means that the Wednesday evening storm in Costa Rica produced 0.11 percent of the ground strikes in the world. According to a news article by Pablo Fonseca of La Nacion, the storm was rare not only due to the intensity, but also because it was a bit later than usual for the green season.įorecasters of the National Weather Service in the United States estimate the number of lightning occurrences in the world at about 100 per second, although only 20 of them are estimated to hit the ground. ![]() ![]() The sky fireworks were accentuated by the early darkness, and they managed to impress neighbors of Tibas, Montes de Oca and San Jose. The storm was first reported in the western portion of Alajuela before moving in an easterly direction towards Heredia, where many residents of Barrio Fatima reported that their electronics and appliances ceased operating that evening. The impressive thunderstorm that soaked great portions of the Central Valley on Wednesday evening delivered 2,000 lightning strikes, frying household appliances and electronics and striking fear in the hearts of dogs that affected by canine astraphobia (fear of thunder, lightning and storms in general).Ĭhief Weather Forecaster Werner Stolz of the National Institute of Meteorology in Costa Rica explained that a combination of high temperatures and excess humidity caused the phenomenon. Storm clouds over Costa Rica a few days ago produced a little over 0.11 percent of the average daily global lighting strikes in just two hours. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() HP hasn't changed the display on the 2023 iteration, but it didn't need to.
